NYC FOOTY’S CALENDAR
Below you will find important dates with respect to our calendar. These dates include tournaments, holidays and, in general, our registration window for the four seasons of footy that we run annually.
HOLIDAYS*
Through the year, there are 4 holiday periods** where we do not hold games
Christmas through New Year’s
Memorial Day
Labor Day
Thanksgiving
*Due to permit restrictions, we are often not able to take off other holidays. If the schedule permits, however, we will take off on Juneteenth and July 4th and/or the Juneteenth & July 4th weekend. But this is not guaranteed and is on a league-by-league basis.
**”Holiday period” varies year by year. We will take off the actual holiday day itself. Often, we will take off the weekend surrounding the holiday and, on occasion, the full week itself. This can change on a year by year basis, based on permit availability, scheduling, etc.
OTHER HOLIDAYS
We do not take off for religious holidays, popular social holidays (e.g. Mother’s Day) and many Federal Holidays (e..g. Veteran’s Day) for a couple of reasons. The most important reason is that we do not have enough time in our schedule to take off all holidays and we aren’t going to pick and choose favofites.
The second reason is related to religious holidays in particular. If we can’t take off for all of them, then we can’t take off for any of them. Otherwise, we are signaling that certain religious holidays take precedent over others.
However, if your team has a scheduling difficulty related to a holiday (or for another reason), just let us know well in advance and we can try to schedule a bye week for your team.
TOURNAMENTS
NYC Footy hosts two annual tournaments and partners on a third.
The Governors Cup: Takes place the 1st weekend in June.
The Cup of Dreams: Takes place the last weekend in July.
The Footy Fest: Takes place over Columbus / Indigenous People’s Day Weekend (October).
The South Bronx United Charity Cup: Takes place every August in the Bronx.
SEASONAL LEAGUE CALENDAR
Every league registration has three phases: Rollover, Early Bird, and Regular.
Rollover is the opening 2-4 day window allowing existing teams to roll into the next season before others are allowed to register
Early Bird lasts for an additional 10 days
Regular registration begins after early bird and continues thereafter
The below provides the registration period as well as the active season period within each season.
It’s important to know that there are exceptions, albeit few, where a league start and end dates do not follow the standard protocol below and run on an “alternative” schedule (e.g. a spring league starts first week of April and ends first week of July).
The purpose of this alternative schedule is increase the options available for folks that may discover the league late in a season, operate on unusual schedules or to maximize a facility’s permit offerings.
Spring:
Season Registration: Opens Early February - Closes Mid April
Standard Season Period: Starts March - Ends in June
Alternative Seasonal Period: Starts April - Ends in July
Summer
Season Registration: Opens Early May - Closes Mid June
Season Dates: Starts June - Ends September
Alternative Seasonal Period: Starts July - Ends October
Fall
Season Registration: Opens Early August - Closes Mid October
Season Dates: Starts September - Ends December
Alternative Seasonal Period: Starts October - Ends January
